BABES IN THE WOOD is one of the most traditional of all pantomimes. It is based on fact; and tells the story of two young children whose wicked uncle wants them killed so that he can claim their inheritance. He hires two robbers to take them into the wood and kill them. The robbers quarrel and leave the babes alone in the wood. The babes fall asleep and robins cover them with leaves to keep them warm. In the pantomime version of the story, the babes are rescued by Robin Hood and his Merry Men.
